APC & APUWJ condemn assault, demand arrest of culprits
ITANAGAR, Sept 11: In yet another dastardly act, a group of miscreants attacked two
employees of The Arunachal Times daily here in the wee hours Tuesday, sending shockwaves
among the terror-
The incident took place exactly at 2.10 am when two machine-
The attackers made good their escape on two motorcycles after other night shift employees on duty rushed to the entrance gate on hearing the commotion and screams outside the office. The incident happened at the same spot where Tongam Rina was shot at.
Sarkar sustained grievous injuries though Bora escaped with minor injury. On receipt of complaint, a police team rushed to the spot and rushed the duo to RK Mission Hospital for treatment. A case has been registered and investigation launched.
This is the fourth major attack on the employees of The Arunachal Times. In March 2012, one DTP operator was beaten outside the office; on April 15, a group of masked men vandalized the office and on July 15, associate editor Tongam Rina was shot at outside the office.
The repeated attacks on media persons have sent shockwaves across the state; a number of representations, peaceful dharnas and rally by the media persons have borne no fruit as yet.
Taking strong exception to unabated attacks on press persons, even after security
personnel were deployed in press establishments, the Arunachal Press Club (APC) and
Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) have strongly condemned the
unprovoked assault on AT employees and called on the police to bring the culprits
to book at the earliest. However, both the organizations have expressed indignation

The two organizations have also demanded to know why the security personnel have been withdrawn despite the fact that The Arunachal Times has been under constant threat.
Meanwhile, CCTV footages has been produced before the police authority for prompt investigation into the case.
A/Times paying the price for being voice of voiceless !!
ITANAGAR, Sept 11: The Arunachal Times (AT) daily expressed extreme sadness over repeated attacks on its office and employees. In the last six months, the employees of this daily have been at the receiving end of some brutal attacks including the assassination attempt on Tongam Rina, the associate editor of this daily.
Apart from the four major incidents that is attack on one DTP operator, vandalization of AT office, assassination attempt on Associate Editor Tongam Rina, attack on two machine men, the threat and intimidation to journalists of Arunachal Times continued.
It is quite baffling as to why The Arunachal Times is being attacked repeatedly ? Is it the price the daily is paying for being the voice of the voiceless Arunachalees?
It is worth mentioning here that The Arunachal Times has been emerging as true voice of Arunachalee people for its unbiased and balanced reporting/news for last few years. Now it is up to the people of this state to decide whether they want their voice to be heard or let it get crushed? In all the previous cases, police investigation has not yielded any fruitful results yet.The situation is deeply demoralizing the employees of the Arunachal Times.

ITANAGAR, Sept 11: Dengue claimed its first victim with a seven-
The victim Punya Tana of remote Pakke Kessang in East Kameng district died in the hospital on September 8 following complications from dengue fever, according to a health department release.
Dengue has also spread in different parts of the state as many cases of dengue have been reported in the ASH from places like Pakke Kessang, Balijan, Sagalee even Capital Complex, the release said.

The Commissioner and Secretary Health Bagra while enquiring about availability of DDT in stock and other chemicals for IRS and fogging operation, advised to carry out fogging operation in all mosquito breeding areas. He gave emphasis on creating awareness about preventive and dengue controlling measures among people through various modes of medias including radio with the cooperation of district administration and PRI to bring about multi sectorial approach in containing the disease. He also emphasized on provision of reliable testing equipments along with reagents and kits for making diagnosis of the disease in the two major hospitals at Pasighat and Naharlagun. The DHS Dr. Nishing agreed to execute all instructions and directed the State Epidemiologist and Dy. Director (NVBDCP) to make the necessary proposals from the department for obtaining necessary approval by the Govt.
The State Epidemiologist Dr. Jampa apprised on the actions taken by the department informing that the surveillance mechanism are in place in both the state and the district headquarters in the IDSP which is functioning in coordination with the District Medical Officers.

Bhoti teachers training programme commences
TAWANG, Sept. 11: The 10 days Bhoti teachers training programme began on September 10 here.
Addressing the inaugural function, Rinchin Dorjee, former Chairman APPSC, called upon the Bhoti Teachers for sincerity and dedication in preaching and preserving the Bhoti Language in different parts of the district in particular and the state as a whole. He urged the members to impart quality education along with moral values. He added that only education with moral values is capable of taking a person towards the path of progress. Students must not only be taught academic subjects in school, but moral values and ethics as well.
Tawang DDSE R Phuntsok while highlighting the aims and objectives of the training programme, emphasized on preservation of the rich culture and heritage of the region. He urged the Bhoti Teachers to be more realistic in life while transacting the teaching learning process. The bandh which began at 5 am on Tuesday remained peaceful without any incidents of violence being reported from any parts of the capital city, police said. The BCIF called the bandh in protest against the decision to shift the venue of the proposed greenfield airport from Karsingsa to Hollongi.

Prohibitory order
ITANAGAR, Sept 11: District Magistrate Itanagar Capital Complex Sanjay Goel in an order has prohibited sale and consumption of tobacco, Gutka and cigarettes within the 100 meters radius of General Hospital, Naharlagun.
The magistrate said that tobacco and gutka are being sold and widely used within the compound of general Hospital, Naharlagun which adversely affects the patients, their attendants and visitors. It also hampers in keeping the hospital areas clean.

2nd phase of fogging at Pasighat
PASIGHAT, Sept 11: The 2nd phase of massive Fogging is being carried put in and around Pasighat township to contain vector borne diseases. Fogging was carried out at the DC’s office complex, upper and lower Banskota, SS Mission, bazaar area, APP line, DDK and AIR colonies, General Hospital, Mirku, Mirbuk and other adjoining areas today.
Informing that arrival 5 more fogging machine would expedite the operation, Dr. M Perme said that fogging exercise will be carried on for next few days.
He also informed that arrangement for mass IEC programme is going on as without the awareness and supports of the public, source management and control of the disease will be a hard task. He appealed all to cooperate and maintain hygienic surroundings and environment so that mosquito breeding can be controlled.

Teachers’ death condoled
ITANAGAR, Sept 11: The Changlang District unit of Arunachal Teachers Association (ATA) has deeply mourned the sudden demise of Roman Mossang, A/T of Govt. Middle School, Tengmo under Jairampur Circle. He died at his residence on September 8.
Roman was a simple but sincere, dedicated and hard working. His death is a great loss to the society and the teaching fraternity in the district, the ATA unit said in a release and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

2 UPDF cadres nabbed
ITANAGAR, Sept 11: Two UPDF cadres were nabbed and one foreign made 7.65 mm pistol along with live cartridges and 3 mobile phones recovered by Lohit Police from Emphun, about 55 km from Namsai, yesterday.
Acting on an input, a police team under the command of deputy superintendent of police Dipankar Mishra of SIT PHQ, launched a search operation in the jungle of Emphun yesterday which led to apprehension of the two cadres, who were identified as Nakkia Chakma @ Puniyasen Chakma and Ranjeet Chakma.
During the search operation at around 1900 hrs, the Police team could locate a shelter of UPDF and the team slowly approached the hut but all of a sudden the UPDF cadres started firing at Police party indiscriminately from all directions. In retaliation, the Police team also opened fire in which Nakkia Chakma sustained injuries on his right leg [below the knee], Superintendent of Police, Lohit informed in a release. Nakkia Chakma was evacuated to CHC Chowkham from where he has been further referred to AMC, Dibrugarh for further treatment, the release added.

Wake Up! Arunachal’s future is in danger !
Dear Editor,
I would like to draw the attention of the “Indigenous Peoples” of Arunachal to a very serious issue. This issue is just one of the various issues which our State is facing from a long time. The illegal immigrants and uncontrolled influx of migrants from other states of our country into our state is a very serious issue. Being a Tribal State such negative development is very dangerous to our tribal society. We have the rights given by the international organizations like UNO (United Nations Organization) and the Constitution of India to safeguard our land space, air space, culture, forest, natural resources, economy etc. The illegal immigrants and migrants from other states are a big threat to our rights.
I was shocked to know through a national journal that the tribal population in our
state constitutes only 64.2 % of the total population of our state. The other 35.8
% are non-
Besides our state, the other two states in Northeast India where ILP system is implemented are Nagaland and Mizoram. According to the Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, the percentage of tribal population in these two states is 94.5 % (in Mizoram) and 89.1 % (in Nagaland) of their respective total population. These figures are much better than ours. Northeast state Meghalaya, where ILP system is not implemented is also better than ours. The tribal population percentage is 85.90 % in Meghalaya. These facts tell us that the elected leaders of Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya government and civil societies are doing a commendable job on this issue. I do not know what the Government, Opposition Parties and Civil Societies of Arunachal Pradesh are doing. Sometime I wonders whether they exist or not. If the uncontrolled influx continues this way then the time will not be far when we will be reduced to a minority in our own state and lose our own cultural identity and other rights. We cannot let our state to be like Assam, Tripura where Indigenous Peoples are reduced to a minority in their own land and Manipur where migrants are almost equals the locals. Migrants are slowly invading into our society like a silent killer. Illegal and uncontrolled migration will become a major economic, demographic and political problem if not controlled. They are threat to our security also as many of them are rootless and can do any crime.
The Government of Arunachal Pradesh must ensure to implement the existing laws strictly and enact some other stronger laws for the protection of the rights of its people. They must further increase the reservations in govt. jobs in favour of APST from its present reservation policy. The govt. alone can’t fight these menaces. The joint efforts of the government, civil societies, and indigenous peoples are needed. It is not wrong to think of one’s education, career, and jobs but don’t think only these things; take some moment of your brief life and contemplate on some serious social issues and do something. The local media too can do an important role in creating awareness among the ‘Indigenous Peoples’ of Arunachal.

Kudos to the Green Pioneers

Since few months back starting from April, our state capital witnessed number of
cleanliness drive undertaken by some white T-
But on the flip side it is depressing to see that their sheer hard work and sincere volunteerism has hardly changed the stubborn mindset of some section of capital’s denizen who seem to think that littering is their birth right and will do whatever it takes to make it look no less than an abandoned dustbin. This is evident from all the garbage that are dumped in the same places where this group invested their time and sweated hard with a hope that they (we) will see light in the end of the tunnel. People it seems have taken this group for granted or maybe mistaking them to be the employee of UD deptt., or even worse, some sort of high profile and good looking bunch of rag pickers. People should realize that this group work real hard to organize such events. And I am pretty sure they are not wannabe limelight seekers either.
Just think why the hell would anybody spend so much time, hard work and money on such events when they have their own life to look after, when they have to keep pace with others in today’s cut throat competitive world. They have a broader goal and idea. An idea to bring real change in the rotten and rigid mindset, an idea to bring in some sense of responsibilities, responsibility of contributing a little bit in bringing back the serenity (which seems surreal these days) of our state. Where potholes in road make internal organs bump each other, where traffic jams make likes of tortoise and snails give us a wry smile, where bandh calls have become synonymous to holidays and weekends, where ILP regulation is just for the namesake, where crimes make life fearful, this group of people amid such chaos coming up with such grand and Green idea is really laudable and should be appreciated and respected not just in words but in action as well.
As of me, honestly, I have never been a part of these drives due to my unavailability
in the right time at the right place nor I am very active in the networking site.
But that hardly matters as long as these cleanliness drives being initiated by The
Green Pioneers inspire me to do my bit wherever I am. And hopefully I am doing that.
I confront (very politely) people who litters, I ensure plastics and other wastes
are not littered in and around my surrounding. I ensure that they are properly disposed.
I believe, I am living the main objective of the Green Pioneers and confident everyone

Dear Editor,
This is in response to H.C Tok's opinion on dress code of our younger generations. I myself have raised the issue couple of times and have even branded these young ones as Pirated Koreans. But there is a difference in our outlook, I highlighted their self ruining habits like going to beer bars and puffing cigarettes at their school going age. But H C Tok only highlighted skimpy clothes of girls, nowhere he mentioned the Bob Marley like untidy hairstyle and semi naked pants of boys with waistline mercifully hanging on their lower butt.
Tok also gives an indication that the dress code of girls is a reason for crimes like murder and rape of girls. He is indirectly justifying those criminals, this is a very dangerous trend. If short skirts of girls can arouse them for crime they can also be by watching pornographic videos which are available everywhere. This mean that every time a psychopathic man sees a girl in short skirts or he watches a pornographic video girls will have to run for cover? Please do not set a Talibanic or Khap like trend in our state, its strange that no women based NGO have objected this article. No doubt short skirts and clinging pants are morally questionable but that doesn’t qualify them as victim of a crime.

Global food prices increasing
Global food prices soared by 10 percent in July from a month ago, with maize and
soybean reaching all-
From June to July, maize and wheat rose by 25 percent each, soybeans by 17 percent, and only rice went down, by 4 percent. Overall, the World Bank’s Food Price Index, which tracks the price of internationally traded food commodities, was 6 percent higher than in July of last year, and 1 percent over the previous peak of February 2011.

According to Food Price Watch, weather is the critical factor behind the abrupt global price increases in July. The drought in the U.S. has resulted in vast damages to the summer crops of maize and soybeans, for which the country is the world’s largest exporter. Meanwhile, the dry summer in the Russian Federation, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan has contributed to projected wheat production losses.
The abrupt food price increases turned favorable price prospects for the year upside down. World Bank experts do not currently foresee a repeat of 2008; however, negative factors — such as exporters pursuing panic policies, a severe El Nino, disappointing Southern hemisphere crops, or strong increases in energy prices — could cause significant further grain prices hikes such as those experienced four years ago.
